In honor of Pride month, @twdcc_dance, @motionpacificdance, and @geraldcaseldance are thrilled to announce an upcoming collaboration launching this Fall:
BBQueer (Black, Brown and Queer) is a series of performances, collective community actions, workshops and private gatherings culminating in a multi-day festival.
BBQueer celebrates the transformative art making power and embodied activism of Queer Black, Indigenous and People of Color and is a direct response to the City of Santa Cruz’s declaration that racism is a public health crisis. This annual performance festival invites artists from diverse backgrounds and performance practices to gather in community in order to re-imagine the collective social fabric that becomes woven from their visions, desires and designs. Providing a home where the BIPOC queer community can feel seen, affirmed, included and safe; this festival is where queer and BIPOC artists can share their work, celebrate their identities, learn about histories of systemic oppression, engage with local support networks, and take workshops where they feel totally welcome. It is a proud space where humans are seen as whole with intersectional stories to share.

BBQueer celebra el poder transformativo del arte y cuerpo político de personas Queer Negro, Indígena, y Gente de Color y es en reacción a la declaración de la ciudad de Santa Cruz que el racismo es un crisis de salud pública. El festival annual invita artistas de orígenes diversos y prácticas interpretativas para reunir en comunidad para reimaginar la fábrica colectivo social tejida por sus visiones, deseos y diseños. Proveyendo un hogar donde la comunidad BIPOC se sienten vistos, afirmados, seguros e incluídos; éste festival es donde artistas queer y BIPOC pueden compartir sus obras, celebrar sus identidades, aprender sobre las historias de la opresión sistémica, tomar parte en recursos locales de apoyo, y asistir en talleres donde se sentirán bienvenidos. Es un espacio donde todos los humanos se ven enteros y con historias interseccionales para compartir.
